Based in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan countryside, Evan Williams has achieved the astonishing feat of saddling horses to finish placed in five consecutive Grand Nationals between 2009 and 2013 with horses State of Play and Cappa Bleu. He has earned over £3.7 million in prize money during the past five seasons and won a number of top races throughout his career, with the Coral Gold Cup Chase (Hennessy), Ladbrokes Christmas Hurdle, Coral Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase to name a few.
Evan was heavily involved in training and riding point-to-pointers before developing into a multiple Grade 1-winning trainer with 1000+ winners. He buys the majority of his horses himself - something that has proved very effective - and had his first Grade 1 victory in 2003 with Sunray, a runner he purchased himself for only £700. Evan runs the yard with the help of his family and is not one to delegate much, overseeing the horses in training in the morning and educating the future generations in the afternoon.
