When we saw the SERGEI PROKOFIEV ex SAMASANA yearling we were struck by how uncommonly powerful she was for a filly, much stronger than most of her peers with plenty of scope that should make her a force to be reckoned with on the track next year. She is an impressive type with a fantastic, easy action and a great temperament, and retains great athleticism despite her size. Trainer Ed Walker was very keen on her, having trained her half brother INDIGENOUS REALM to win three times on the bounce before he was sold to Hong Kong (private sale), and we were delighted to secure her for excellent value for his yard.
Pedigree
Trained by Aidan O’Brien, first season sire SERGEI PROKOFIEV was very precocious on the track, rated higher than his peers MOHAATHER, KESSAAR and LAND FORCE at two - all top individuals and now sires themselves. A real early type, he broke his maiden in April by an impressive 7.5 lengths, took third in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes and was celebrated for his outstanding performance in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes later that year. He didn’t stop there however, having more than enough scope to win another Stakes race at three.
“It was an extraordinary performance. He had the whole field in front of him and he just breezed by them.” - Nick Luck on SERGEI PROKOFIEV’s Cornwallis victory
It is no surprise that he is producing such promising-looking progeny when he is by sire of sires SCAT DADDY, one of the greatest stallions of our time and described as a “phenomenal source of raw speed”. This filly certainly looks to be quick, and has every chance with a first-rate family on his damside - she is out of the outstanding mare SAMASANA, who was a three-time winner herself and whose six sons and daughters in training are all winners too. Most notable is Stakes winner SIMMY’S TEMPLE, who won almost £100,000 in prize money and was victorious in the Pike Place Dancer Stakes at Golden Gate. The impressive family line goes further with the grandam SINGITTA, who produced an incredible nine winners from 10 runners, including Stakes performer SINGEUR. They descend from the Group 2 performer FERBER’S FOLLIES, who foaled numerous extremely high-class runners and black-type producing broodmares.
