*Bought from Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 - Europe’s largest yearling sale and producer of Group 1 winners BAYSIDE BOY, ADDEYBB, EMILY UPJOHN, MINZAAL, DESERT CROWN, STATE OF REST and ZAAKI.*

For such a strong, robust horse, this colt was extremely athletic with a cracking action that suggests he has incredible power behind him. His build and pedigree fit the sprinting type that will be perfect in the hands of Clive Cox, who is renowned for his ability to train horses over shorter distances, with the likes of HARRY ANGEL, PROFITABLE, NANDO PARRADO, TIS MARVELLOUS and SUPREMACY amongst his greats.

“You have bought a star!” were the first words from Church View Stables’ Tom Whelan when the hammer landed and he came to congratulate us on our purchase. Expertly bred by Juddmonte’s top breeding operation, this colt looks as though he will make a super two-year-old for us with plenty of scope to progress on at three like his Stakes performing full-brother DEODAR. He has an excellent attitude, taking everything into his stride, and was given heaps of praise by the team that looked after him.

Pedigree

Winner of the Group 2 Temple Stakes, BATED BREATH stands at Juddmonte’s Stallion Operation, who highlight him as the “best value sire in Britain of black-type performers over the last three years.” He remains an ever popular sire with 57 Stakes performers behind him and a 60% winner to runner ratio, and is beautifully bred as the son of Juddmonte’s star sire DANSILI and excellent broodmare TANTINA, who bore an impressive three black-type performers from her first three foals. BATED BREATH’s career could be the most frustrating of all, being the runner up of four Group 1’s including the July Cup and King’s Stand Stakes, and possibly wasn’t recognised for how talented he really was.

“The best value sire in Britain of black-type performers over the last three years.” - Juddmonte

Also bred by Juddmonte, TESTED was an extremely classy filly with multiple Group 3 wins to her name as well as a Listed victory. Indeed, of her three year career she won five times and placed second a further four times, landing herself in the winners enclosure nine times out of her 12 starts. She didn’t stop there, going on to be a successful broodmare following retirement, producing our colt’s full-brother DEODAR, who broke his maiden first time out and was beaten in the Listed Doncaster Stakes by only a length. You may also have heard of their half-brother PROBE, who this year won the Howden Handicap on Guineas Day at Newmarket, and who has been hugely prosperous on the track during his career, earning over £90,000 in prize money.
