This spectacular filly was a real stand out at the Goffs Orby Sale and placed at the very top of our shortlist. She exudes class and has the pedigree to match as a quality daughter of NEW BAY out of a Listed-winning and Group-placed GALILEO mare that descends from the family of RHODODENDRON, dam to English and Irish Derby winner AUGUSTE RODIN.

There is so much to like about this filly, who possesses a beautifully balanced frame and plenty of scope. The GALILEO line shows through strongly in her physique and she looks every inch an athlete, with an exceptional action, great power behind and a fantastic reach of her shoulder. She is a Classic type, bred to be a three-year-old with her sire winning the French Derby and damsire hailed as Champion 3YO with success in both the Epsom Derby and Irish Derby.

She will go into training in Newmarket with ROGER VARIAN, who has a phenomenal record when training progeny of New Bay, having achieved stakes success with Bayside Boy, before continuing that success with the likes of CHAR, PEROTTO, NEW ENDEAVOUR and IMPERIAL YELLOW.

Pedigree

This filly has an exquisite pedigree on both sides of her parentage, starting with her four-time Group winning sire NEW BAY, son of DUBAWI, who has shot to the top 20 of the Stallion Leader board for ratio of black-type winners to runners in just four seasons at stud. Claiming 30 Stakes winners already, he is a stallion on the rise and his increase in stud fee to £75,000 this season demonstrates his rapid incline to becoming a top sire of quality progeny. His first victory came in the Spring of his three-year-old career and he continued to excel thereafter, claiming the Group 1 French Derby followed by a further two Group 2’s on the bounce in France. His progeny have amounted to the same level of excellence, demonstrated by his very first crop which produced legendary performers BAY BRIDGE and SAFFRON BEACH, and he is rapidly asserting himself as a sire of sires, with BAY BRIDGE and BAY SIDE BOY both taking up the mantel this year. He also boasts several smart two-year-olds at present, most notably BAY CITY ROLLER who has landed three victories on the bounce, the latest being the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last month.

GALILEO mares are in high demand due to their success in producing quality stock, and FREEDOM’S LIGHT boasts a  staunchly blue-blooded line on both sides that is evident in her own progeny, claiming three winners from four runners, including LAUDERDALE who secured a TimeForm Rating of 110 in France. FREEDOM’S LIGHT was talented in her own right, achieving a Listed win and beaten only by a short head in the Group 3 Pinnacle Stakes on her penultimate start. She was remarkably consistent, landing in the top three in six of her seven runs, and concluded her career on an excellent rating of 100. This is no surprise as the daughter of prize broodmare ARICIA, who produced three Stakes victors from six winners. The family is abundant in black-type, and stretches all the way back to third dam RAHAAM, who was a relentless producer of Stakes winners and top class broodmares alike. Her descendants are made up of countless Classic winners and Champion Horses, with CASSANDRA GO, HALFWAY TO HEAVEN, MAGICAL, RHODODENDRON and this year’s English and Irish Derby winner, AUGUSTE RODIN, making up the prestigious roll of honour.
