This PINOTUBO filly out of MARIE OF LYON was a must have from Tattersalls Book 2 Sale. A sharp two-year-old type from a family of top class Stakes winners, she looks a serious athlete and should be out on the track relatively early next season. We couldn’t knock her on her physical - strong and well put together, she tops it off with a cracking action. 

Eligible for 100% of the Great British Bonus, she can win an extra £20,000 bonus for every Novice or Maiden she wins, and she goes into training with no-one better for the job than Classic winning William Haggas.

With scope to progress on at three, not only do we think she will make a star on the track, but her exceptional pedigree lends her perfectly to become a top broodmare in time.

 

Pedigree

She is by PINATUBO, who was awarded the title of “Unbeaten Horse of the Year” as a juvenile – an exceptionally rare accolade – and is the best horse in the stallion-making family of KODIAC and INVINCIBLE SPIRIT. With six victories on the bounce, including the Group 1 National Stakes (earning €228,000) and the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes (earning £302,690), he was unrivalled as a two-year-old. He went on to win a third Group 1 at three, and didn’t land out of the top three in all of his starts in that season.

New to stud in 2021, his first runners made their appearance last year, securing an impressive rate of 41% winners to runners on the track. With four black-type horses to his name already, he is making an excellent start to his career as a stallion. His SHAMARDAL line is showing through in his stock, with his progeny looking very much as though they will progress on at three, and he has the class in his family to only strengthen his chances.

On this filly’s damside, her page is brimming with Stakes horses, descending from third dam ODETTE, who produced seven winners from eight runners, including two Group winners and the grandam to our filly, who won at Listed level and placed in Group company on numerous occasions. The filly’s own dam, MARIE OF LYON, is a three time winner herself who placed at Listed level and has gone on to prove herself as an excellent broodmare with her second foal SHADOW ARMY - the 100 rated sprinter who took second this summer in the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin. With the class of her parentage combined, our filly looks a very smart prospect indeed.
