A Gutsy Performance from Phoenix Passion

PHOENIX PASSION gave an impressive effort yesterday at Yarmouth in the 1m Nursery Handicap, breaking his maiden on handicap debut in a brave rally against CHRIS’S MATE.

The pair pulled five lengths clear from the rest of the field over a furlong out, battling for the lead with the Robyn Brisland-trained colt briefly holding the advantage before PHOENIX PASSION dug deep to take the victory by half a length. It was an excellent ride from Kieran Shoemark, and a real testament to the in-form team at Ed Walker Racing, who have scored three wins from three runs this month for us alone!

Purchased last year from Book 2 at Tattersalls for 125,000 GNS, PHOENIX PASSION was superbly bred by Stratford Place Stud as a son of first-season sire TOO DARN HOT and out of Group 3-winning mare SOUVENIR DELONDRES. He is a fun horse for his owners and we look forward to seeing where he takes us in the hands of Ed and his team!

PHOENIX PASSION (IRE) was upped in trip and showed much improved form to get off the mark on handicap debut returned to turf, hitting the front far enough out and showing a gutsy attitude to wrestle back the advantage late in the piece; tracked pace, led 2f out, ridden soon after, tackled approaching final 1f, headed briefly last ½f, rallied to lead again final 50 yds; he can continue to progress now up and running.

The first 3 home were all handicap debutants but it was the front pair who pulled well clear, Phoenix Passion clearly still learning but battling well to open his account.
