Arctic Thunder Propels to glory at Ascot

Arctic Thunder continues to impress and improve for every run in his brief but exciting racing campaign as a 3 year old.

The trend followed suit on the 10th of May at Ascot with an emphatic success in the Peroni Nastro Azzuro Class 2 Handicap, Proving game in front as he battled with the Roger Varian trained Accumulate all the way to the line and getting his head in front at the finish line.

The lucrative handicap paid £23,193 to the winner, pushing Arctic Thunder over the £30,000 threshold in total season earnings so far. In equally exciting news, his handicap mark has subsequently been raised from 85 to 92, meaning he will now comfortably qualify for the Britannia Stakes Heritage Handicap (£120,000 Prize Pot) at the Royal Ascot meeting on Thursday 22nd June.

ARCTIC THUNDER (IRE) really looks the part and belied market weakness to make a winning handicap/turf debut, responding well to gain a narrow verdict; tracked pace, took keen hold, disputed lead from 2f out, kept on, edged ahead inside final 1f, just held on; open to further improvement and one to be interested in again.

Just the 5 runners, but they had had just one handicap run between them and at least 4 of them could be described as unexposed and/or progressive, so an informative race seemed on the cards, and that positive view holds, even though a steady pace meant nothing really settled - the field racing up the centre - and the pair at the head of the market were a shade disappointing.
