Devoir's Choice is up for the challenge!
This weekend saw a dramatic battle to the line in Redcar’s 1m Woodsmith Construction Straight Mile Series Qualifier Handicap, with DEVOIR’S CHOICE digging deep to get his head in front of the leaders AL MARMAR and PARK STREET.
Having been knocking on the door for some time, DEVOIR’S CHOICE got off the mark under a brilliant ride from apprentice jockey Callum Hutchinson, claiming 3lb for the Ed Walker team. Sitting patiently in behind, Hutchinson timed his challenge to perfection, running on strongly in the final furlong to pick up the leaders by a neck.
The remainder of the field finished a long way behind and it is indicative of DEVOIR'S CHOICE's potential, managing to gain so much ground from off the pace. He remains on a good mark with plenty more to come from him having gained the confidence from the win!
Time Form Race Review
Time: 93.93s Closing Sectional: (3.00f): 34.87s
DEVOIRS CHOICE (IRE) had been running well prior to his Newmarket flop and with an apprentice on board for the first time, resumed progress to open his account, needing every yard to get up; mid-field, shaken up over 2f out, good headway approaching final 1f, keeping on when edged left inside final 1f, stayed on to lead close home; will benefit from a return to 1¼m and can kick on now up and running.
A fairly useful handicap which produced an exciting finish, Devoirs Choice getting up late in the piece to deny a pair who had been on the speed throughout, less than a couple of lengths separating the first 6 home.
